The Low-Income Weatherization Program (LIWP) Farmworker Housing Component installs no-cost energy efficiency improvements and/or solar PV systems for qualified farmworker households. Funded by the State of California to help households save energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the program lowers energy costs for families and makes other improvements to improve the livability of housing.
To be eligible, at least one household member must be an agricultural employee and the household must meet the program's income guidelines. After qualification, we will evaluate your home to determine eligibility for services.
A LIWP-approved contractor will deliver and install new appliances, such as a new air conditioner, furnace, ceiling fans, refrigerator, and other services, such as weatherization to make your home more efficient.
An inspector will visit your home to ensure the work performed by the contractor meets all quality standards and that all new appliances are working properly.
I really appreciate the program and all it has done for me and my home. The new heater we received has been working great, especially since this winter has been very cold. My electric bill used to be $75-80 a month, but this month I only paid $5. The solar system has helped me tremendously within the past year since I have had it.
I now have a state-of-the-art solar system that lowered my electric bill dramatically and added a lot to the value of my home, in addition to also now having a high-end HVAC efficient system. I hope the program continues and can help others like myself.
The program has helped my family and home tremendously. I am so grateful for this program and the state's ability to help us. I would not have been able to get a new heater, windows, and solar panels on my own. The cost of my electric bill in the summer used to be almost $500 a month, but now I am paying less than $20 a month.
We are very happy with the program and all they have provided us with. The program replaced the windows we have had since we bought the home in the 80s. That is something we would not have been able to do on our own as we are retired and low-income. This is a very helpful program for people in need, and we are so happy to have participated. With the other new appliances the home received, we have seen a drop in our bills because we noticed the window and weather stripping really hold in the heat in the winter and cold air in the summer
The services and experience I received through the Low-Income Weatherization Program have been very good. The contractors who helped me were great and communicated with me throughout the entire process. I received brand new solar panels and other energy-efficient appliances for my home, and I have seen a huge difference in the amount I pay every month for my bills.
At first, my family and I were wary of the program because we thought a program like LIWP could not exist and that we would eventually be charged for the services. We were assured, however, that the services were completely free, and we are truly grateful for the assistance. We received a solar panel system complete with 10 panels and it works perfectly. This month’s electric bill is incredibly low at $10. Through LIWP we also qualified for door repair, weather stripping, LED bulbs, a water heater, window, and refrigerator replacement. We hope that the program will be renewed so that we, and many others like us, can continue to be helped.
The entire process through the Low-Income Weatherization Program has been phenomenal. The service providers came to assess our home right when Covid-19 began, and we became worried that the program would end, or we would no longer receive our measures due to the pandemic. Our service provider exceeded our expectations in making sure everyone stayed safe and healthy all while providing us with appliances that our home desperately needed. We finally have heating and cooling now which is essential in our climate zone. All the other upgrades we received is like the cherry on top. Our bill has dramatically decreased from $1200 a month. I would recommend this program 1000% and would do it all over again if we could.
We initially heard of the Low-Income Weatherization Program (LIWP) through telemarketers and word of mouth within the farm I work at. Due to some of our 11-person household members needing to stay indoors due to Covid-19, we needed to use the AC every day in the summer. We received a brand-new HVAC the blows crisp cool air in which our new windows seal within our home. With the combined efforts of the measures we received through the program, our electricity bill was reduced by about $300 – which helps us save money. We thoroughly appreciate the opportunity to participate in this program and have recommended others to participate.
